Artwalk Celebrates
its 15th Year
 |
Artwalk began
as a concept to showcase artists in the Kootenays and bring attention
to Nelson as a prominent arts town.
The year was
1988. A local artist and art advocate, Anne DeGrace, brought the
idea home. Artwalk has continued to grow with the number of local
businesses becoming galleries providing more venues for the growing
number of artists living in the Nelson region.
July, August and September mark three months of exhibitions throughout
the downtown core. Each month has a separate grand opening which
includes refreshments, musicians and lots of wonderful artwork for
locals and visitors to enjoy as they stroll through beautiful downtown
Nelson.

-
As
soft-impact tourism, Artwalk is non polluting and is inclined to attract
people respectful of the community while generating community pride.
-
As
an agent for community development, Artwalk is a fabulous opportunity
to partner business with art.
-
As
a walking tour of regional visual art, Nelson’s Artwalk exhibits approximately
one hundred artists in twelve to seventeen gallery venues in three
separate shows during the summer months.
-
Artwalk
continues to be a celebration of the wealth of artistic resources
nurtured by the inspiration of the Kootenay region as well as a great
opportunity to buy art, to discover unique shops and restaurants,
and to meet the friendly people in Nelson's downtown core.
